Blogo Desktop Blogging Application for Joomla

(Mac only) Blogo is by far one of the easiest and most complete desktop blogging application we’ve seen. Easily publish text, images, videos, slideshows and more.

New version of Blogo, 1.2.6. The new version brings two major new features to the app: support for Joomla, one of the most popular content management systems out there, and the addition of Google Translate to both the blog editor and Twitter client.

With a simple, intuitive interface and support for Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, Typo, Drupal, Joomla, and Expression Engine, Blogo is the best way to maintain your blog and spread the word with Twitter, Ping.fm and other supported services.

Fixing the Joomla Plugin

Blogo Team have been wanting to add Joomla for a while, but the state of the current Metaweblog plugin (versions 0.9 and 0.8 were hopelessly broken) made that a bit of a challenge.

So, rather than wait for the plugin to be fixed, blogo team forked our own version on github and fixed it ourselves. Now the plugin is working, and Joomla users can finally edit their blogs with Blogo (as well as any other third-party editor with Metaweblog support).

Intuitive interface

Blogo's interface is designed to let you take your mind off the details and just write.

Post images effortlessly

Lay out your photos in less time than it takes to open your image editor. Just drag, crop, choose the size of the thumb and go on writing.

No-hassle preview

Blogo creates a template for your blog based on a real post so you can be 100% sure you're ready to publish, even when you're not online. No surprises.

Post videos, widgets and more

Use snippets from the web the same way you work with images: just paste or use our bookmarklet in your web browser. Once
you've added, just drag, drop, and post.

Powerful editor

Format your text using bold, italics, citations and more, without touching your blog's code. Create lists, change alignment and even add footnotes. Blogo's editor lets you work with Rich text and edit HTML.

Intelligent microblogging

Follow your friends, search all of Twitter or spread the word with Ping.fm. Blogo can even update your status whenever you post a new article to your blog.

Ping news sites

Enable the default sites, or add your own. Blogo will notify the directories on your list whenever you post a new article.

Update all of your blogs

Multiple accounts with support for Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, Typo, Drupal, Expression Engine, Twitter, Ping.fm and more.

No distractions: fullscreen mode

Instant messages flashing? 984 unread emails? Forget everything else and focus on your post by switching into fullscreen mode.

Offline mode

With offline editing, you can use all of Blogo's tools and even save your articles to post later.
No wifi? No problem.

Joomla Metaweblog Plugin

About

The original version of this plugin was written by Justo for the Google Highly Open Participation contest.

This version has been modified by Brainjuice to work with Blogo, its weblog editor for the Mac. It should also work with other third-party clients like Flock and Windows Live Writer.

Configuration:

In order to use a remote editor with Joomla, your blog must have the MetaWeblog plugin installed and Web Services enabled:

  1. Login to your blog as an administrator
  2. Go to the Site menu and choose "Global Configuration"
  3. Open subsection "System" and change "Enable Web Services" to "Yes"
  4. Click "Apply" at the top of the page
  5. Go to the Extensions menu and choose "Install/Uninstall"
  6. Download the following plugins and upload the ZIP files to Joomla under "Upload Package File":

    • MetaWeblog plugin: http://github.com/benjaminjackson/joomla-metaweblog/zipball/master or MIRROR (Note: If you have installed the plugin previously, uninstall it in the "Plugins" subsection by checking it and clicking "Uninstall" at the top of the page.)
    • RSD plugin: http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/7080/23993/rsd.zip  or MIRROR
  7. Go to the Extensions menu and choose "Plugin Manager"

  8. Enable the plugins ("System - Real Simple Discovery (RSD)" and "XMLRPC - metaWeblog API")
  9. Make sure that the media folder in your Joomla installation has write permissions

In the blog editor:

  • Create a new account
  • Type the url of your homepage and your user and password
  • If the auto configuration doesn't work:
    • Select MetaWeblog API in blog type
    • Enter http://yoursite.com/xmlrpc/index.php as the XMLRPC gateway (sometimes called API link)
